Next ASC-20 Deadline is 11/15 – New Definition for Vaccination Status

We’d like to remind our members that the next deadline for ASC-20 quarterly reporting is November 15th.  You will be reporting your numbers for April 1, 2022 – June 30, 2022. 

NHSN  Surveillance Definition Change for Facilities Reporting Data Through the Healthcare Personnel Safety Component

Moving forward, the definition of "vaccination status" will be updated for the purpose of NHSN public health surveillance.  The following details are provided by the NHSN Vaccination Team:

NHSN’s surveillance definition of up to date COVID-19 vaccination status is based on CDC’s clinical considerations and up to date [DH((1]definition for the first day of the reporting quarter. Please be sure to report up to date vaccination status in NHSN according to the definition for the reporting period associated with the reporting weeks you are submitting data for. Please refer to the definitions of key terms related to COVID-19 vaccination for the purpose of NHSN public health surveillance: https://www.cdc.gov/nhsn/pdfs/hps/covidvax/UpToDateGuidance-May2022-508.pdf.

New Up to Date Definition for Quarter 4

Individuals are considered up to date with their COVID-19 vaccines during the NHSN surveillance period of September 26, 2022 – December 25, 2022 if they have received an updated (bivalent) booster dose OR if they received their last monovalent booster dose less than 2 months ago, OR if they completed their primary series less than 2 months ago. See table below. Changes for Quarter 4 of 2022 are highlighted in yellow.

Reporting Period Quarter 4 2022 (September 26, 2022 - December 25, 2022)

The following definitions apply when reporting data through the NHSN COVID-19 Vaccination Module COVID-19 Vaccination Modules for the reporting period of Quarter 4, 2022 (representing vaccination data for Sep. 26, 2022 - Dec. 25, 2022.)

Up to date with COVID-19 vaccines (Please note that changes for Quarter 4, 2022 are highlighted in yellow.)

Individuals are considered up to date with their COVID-19 vaccines during the surveillance period of September 29, 2022 - December 25, 2022 for the purpose of NHSN surveillance if they meet (1) of the following criteria:

Received an updated (bivalent)* booster dose,
or

a) Received their last booster dose less than 2 months ago, or
b) Completed their primary series less than 2 months ago

* The updated (bivalent) Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech boosters target the most recent Omicron subvarients.  The updated (bivalent) boosters were recommended by the CDC on 9/2/2022.  As of this date, the original, monovalent mRNA vaccines are no longer authorized as a booster dose for people ages 12 years or older.

Note: The NHSN surveillance definition for up to date is now the same regardless of immunocompromised status.
