Registered Nurse – GI Endoscopy

SUMMARY and PURPOSE OF POSITION: Accountable for the provision of nursing care within the assigned GI endoscopy areas of the surgery center.  Ensure patient needs are met in accordance with instructions of physician and facility administrative procedures. Participates in various quality activities as appropriate and as directed by the Director of Nursing, Medical Director and/or the Quality Committee(s). 

SCOPE OF POSITION: The GI Endoscopy Registered Nurse reports directly to the Director of Nursing.

Maintains confidentiality of log-on password(s) and security of other authentication devices (e.g., key fobs, proximity devices, etc.).

Promptly reports information security incidents to the Center’s Privacy Officer 

MAJOR DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

Quality / Safety / Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensures efficient and effective GI endoscopy nursing care is provided to all patients.
  • Provides assistance to ensure the confidentiality, security and integrity of information in the Medical Record is maintained.
  • Participates in the quality improvement process.
  • Maintains compliance with all Board approved, facility policies and procedures. 

Daily Operations

  • Participates as a team member in support of the total peri-operative process.
  • Effectively organizes time, equipment, supplies, and personnel.
  • Uses equipment effectively by anticipating patient needs and providing appropriate care.
  • Confirms that proper techniques and procedures are used according to accepted Standards of Nursing Practice and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Assists with the ordering, receiving, and storage of medical supplies.
  • Maintains order and cleanliness of the procedure rooms in accordance with environmental policies and procedures.
  • Assists with the development and monitoring of the standards for assigned areas pertaining to the procedure room, decontamination and reprocessing areas.
  • Provides assistance in determining goals for assigned area and effectively manages resources to achieve the goals.
  • Maintains a collegial relationship with physicians and allied health professionals to ensure quality patient care.
  • At the direction of the Director of Nursing, maintains an adequate inventory for assigned area, including, but not limited to, equipment and supplies.
  • Assists in recruitment, selection, training and retention of procedure room employees.
  • Accountable for staffing assigned area and performing daily operational activities.
  • Responsible for fostering an environment that promotes staff growth and development.
  • Adheres to Surgery Center policies, procedures, and safety programs.
  • Proactively seeks to continuously improve patient care and operations.
  • Exhibits competency in performing all functions of assigned area or duties.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing or designee. 

Customer and Employee Satisfaction

  • Promotes positive and effective working relationships among Center staff.
  • Assumes responsibility for patient, physician and staff satisfaction as it pertains to the clinical areas.
  • Responds appropriately to physician, patient and visitor complaints and communicates this information to the Director of Nursing in a timely manner. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

Education, Credentials, Licensure: 

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • High School graduate or GED certificate recipient 

REQUIRED LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION:

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio
  • Current BCLS and ACLS certification 

Specialized knowledge: 

Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Additional languages preferred. Proficient in the use of computers; ability to multitask, problem solve, meet deadlines, adapt to changing priorities and situations and demonstrate excellent organizational skills.  

Knowledge of state-specific and federal healthcare regulations and standards as these pertain to the clinical areas within an Ambulatory Surgery Center. Maintains familiarity with a variety of GI equipment and accessories along with trouble-shooting skills that are performed in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions for use. 

Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Must be detail oriented and organized. High integrity, including maintenance of confidential information. Must be able to exercise good judgement and positively influence others, including handling confrontations with poise and efficiency. 

Type and Length of Experience: 

  • Previous work experience in a GI endoscopy setting within an ambulatory surgery center or acute hospital of no less than one (1) year.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS BY POSITION 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close distance (e.g., working on a computer for prolonged periods of time).
